What Progressive Psy sounds like
Slower and more minimal than full-on. A deep, rolling bassline and tight kick, layers that build over minutes rather than bars. Hypnotic grooves, subtle psychedelic effects and melodies that fade in slowly. Perfect for a sunset set, when the crowd sways together and the bass does most of the talking.
What you would see
Nordic forest parties and European festival stages at sunset. Relaxed crowds in hoodies and sneakers, clean visuals and decor, a cooler, more club like vibe than the full-on field.

From the booth
Progressive psy is slower and more minimal than full-on. At 132 to 138 BPM, a deep rolling bassline and tight kick carry layers that build over minutes rather than bars. It grew out of Goa Trance.
I think of it as a sunset sound, when the crowd sways together and the bass does most of the talking. It works well as the warm up before full-on, or as a long hypnotic set of its own. Notice the subtle psychedelic effects and the melodies that fade in slowly. When you are still learning, use long, patient blends. The music rewards restraint, and a hurried transition stands out more here than in almost any other style.
