BBCB — Beton Brut + Concrete Bar — is a two-component underground venue at 2F 127-22 Itaewon-dong in Yongsan-gu, operating since 2017 and holding a consistent position in the Itaewon circuit as one of the more architecturally committed rooms in the city. The name describes the two spaces: Beton Brut (French for raw concrete, the architectural term associated with Brutalism) is the main room — stripped-back, concrete-walled, and fitted with a Funktion-One sound system. Concrete Bar is the secondary space, operating at a lower temperature and serving as the room you go to when the main floor is running hard and you need somewhere to breathe without leaving the building.
The aesthetic is the argument. BBCB’s raw concrete walls, industrial palette, and deliberately undecorated surfaces place it at the opposite end of the design spectrum from Gangnam’s megaclub interiors, and the visual language communicates the programming brief before a single track plays: this is a room that is serious about sound and does not need anything else. Local artists contribute work to the walls, giving the concrete backdrop a texture that changes over time. The kicks feel physical in a way that well-designed Brutalist rooms produce: the material properties of untreated concrete are part of the listening experience.
The programming runs across techno, dub-tinged house, and the harder end of electronic music that fits the room’s identity — underground in the full sense, which means the booking prioritises artists whose work suits the space rather than names that sell tickets to a general audience. International guests have included DJ Deep and Marcel Fengler. The capacity across both rooms runs to roughly 250 when fully open, which makes BBCB one of the mid-sized rooms in the Itaewon circuit — larger than Contra or Nyapi but smaller than Soap, and with a character that is entirely its own.
Practically: the venue opens Thursday through Sunday. Follow BBCB on Resident Advisor and @concretebarseoul for the booking calendar. Find it in Itaewon at 2F 127-22 Itaewon-dong, Yongsan-gu.
