On paper the tempo gap is large. From drum and bass’s middle tempo to dubstep’s is minus 18.8 percent, far beyond a pitch fader. In practice the half time feel is the real difference. Drum and bass drums fill every gap, and the floor bounces at speed. Dubstep drums leave room, so you notice the dub echoes, eerie samples and wobbling mid bass in between.
