There are two rooms in Seoul that have shaped the way I hear music as much as any records or gigs. Tongro, which is gone now, was a bar with a sound system that seemed to know something about warmth that other rooms in the city hadn’t figured out. Casa Corona is still running, in the way that certain rooms persist in Seoul by maintaining an understanding with a specific community — unpromoted, barely online, full every weekend with people who found it and kept finding it.
Get Down Vol. 6 came out of extended time in both of those rooms. Not the recordings from them, but the mood that those rooms produce after hours of sitting inside them, which is a very specific kind of open, receptive listening state that I’ve been trying to translate into DJ sets for as long as I’ve known those places. Soulful. Warm. The kind of music that feels like it’s doing you a favour rather than demanding your attention.
The selection moves through classic house, disco, and soul-influenced contemporary material in a way that I hope feels like a single conversation rather than a sequence of different ideas. Soul II Soul, Jamiroquai, Jungle, Masters At Work, Dave Lee, The Shapeshifters — artists who span decades of the same tradition, making music that starts in the body and reaches the head rather than the reverse. I made this mix during the colder months, which probably shows in the warmth I was reaching for throughout.

This is music for moving, or for sitting still with your eyes closed. Both are correct uses of it.
