Seongsu (성수) is the best afternoon in Seoul. The old shoe and machine workshops on the east side of the city now hold cafes, brand pop ups, design shops and a few rooms with proper speakers, and the whole district is built for walking in daylight. Treat it as a day out that turns into an early evening, then ride Line 2 somewhere louder.

Seongsu by Day: Cafes, Pop Ups and Seoul Forest

Seongsu grew up from the 1960s as a district of workshops and small factories, and those brick buildings are why it looks the way it does. Brands now rent them by the day. OpenAds counted more than 60 pop ups running in Seongsu in a single week in April 2026, and the money behind that is in our piece on the Seongsu pop up DJ. You don’t need a plan. Walk the main street on a weekend afternoon, join whichever queue looks interesting, and there’s a good chance one of the shops has a DJ in the corner.

Yeonmujang-gil (연무장길)The main pop up street, lined with cafes in old factories and brand spaces that change every week or two. Weekends are busiest.

Seoul Forest (서울숲)The big park at the west end of the district, a short walk from Seoul Forest Station on the Suinbundang Line or Ttukseom Station (뚝섬역) on Line 2. Good for an hour between cafes.

Ttukseom Hangang Park (뚝섬한강공원)The river park south of Konkuk, one stop from Konkuk University on Line 7. A convenience store beer on the bank at sunset is a fine Seoul tradition.

Records and design shopsKompakt Record Bar on Yeonmujang-gil sells clothing and goods alongside the bar, and the Seoul Record Fair (서울레코드페어) took its 14th edition to PUBG Seongsu in October 2025, with 62 booths.

Coffee raves and day partiesSeongsu’s converted warehouses are where Seoul’s daytime party format took hold. The background is in Seoul before dark, and in our Seoul Nightlife Report daytime events were the most wanted new format, with 180 votes.

Seongsu After Dark: The Honest Version

Be honest about the night you want. UNDERCITY, a basement on Seongsui-ro 22-gil between Seongsu and Konkuk University stations, has run techno and house since 2025, and regular nights cost about 15,000 to 20,000 won (about US$11 to US$15). Big bookings can reach 45,000 won (about US$33) at the door, and a drum and bass night there on 7 November 2026 listed tickets from 39,000 won (about US$29). Ximxim’s event nights list from about 25,000 won (about US$18). Everything else in Seongsu is a bar where the playlist matters more than the floor, so check the lineup before you leave home. Where to Go Next: Konkuk, the River or West to Euljiro

Seongsu sits in the middle of Line 2’s eastern loop, which makes it an easy place to start and an easy place to leave. Three directions work.

East: Konkuk University (건대입구), one stopThe biggest student night in east Seoul: cheap beer, skewers, arcades and the lamb skewer street by Exit 5. Common Ground (커먼그라운드), the container shopping block by the station, is worth a look on the way. Before the river: Guui, Gangbyeon and the HanPast Konkuk, Line 2 runs through Guui (구의) and Gangbyeon (강변) before it crosses the Han River. Those are quiet stops; the river is the point. Line 7 from Konkuk reaches Ttukseom Hangang Park in one stop.

West: Wangsimni (왕십리), three stopsA commuter hub where four lines meet, so the bars mix students with people heading home and the night runs earlier and steadier than Konkuk’s. Pajeon houses and pubs run south of the station through Haengdang-dong (행당동). What I Actually Think

Seongsu is a showroom with a scene growing underneath it. The afternoons are as good as anywhere in Asia, and the record bars are run by people who care. But a district needs more than one dark room to be a nightlife district, and rents built on brand money make it hard for a second one to open. Until that changes, the smart night out is the one this guide describes: Seongsu for the light, then a short train ride for the noise.

How do I get to Seongsu from Hongdae?

Take Line 2 east from Hongik University station to Seongsu station. It is one line with no transfer, through City Hall, Euljiro and Wangsimni.

Can I practise DJing in Seongsu?
