Electronic music is a product of specific places. Chicago house could not have come from Detroit. Detroit techno could not have come from London. Drum and bass could not have come from Berlin. The cities matter: their economics, their demographics, the specific venues that were available on a Saturday night in 1985 or 1993 or 2008, and the communities that had reason to be in those venues. Scene geography is not background information. It is the explanation for why the music sounds the way it does.
The geography and scenes posts in this section cover the cities and venues that shaped electronic music globally, with particular depth on Seoul. The full city and scene archive is part of the Culture & Scenes section.
